Not scored. This is a first look, not a review. PandaOffice Drecov is a Windows data recovery tool we have recently begun tracking as an affiliate partner, and it has not been near our test drives. We are publishing this page because it would be worse to have a tracked link on the site with nothing explaining what the product is.
Everything below is either observable fact about the product’s positioning, or a vendor claim clearly labelled as one. There is no score at the bottom, because a score would imply we measured something.
What it is
Drecov is the data recovery product from PandaOffice, a vendor with a small family of Windows utilities including a file repair tool and a GIF maker. The recovery product targets the standard consumer scenarios:
- Accidental deletion, including after emptying the Recycle Bin
- Quick-formatted drives, USB sticks and memory cards
- RAW and lost partitions
- System crashes and drives that stopped mounting
It runs on Windows only, from XP through Windows 11. There is no macOS build. It offers a free trial that scans and previews, with a licence required to actually recover — the standard model in this category, and the right way round.
The claims, and why we are not repeating them as fact
The vendor advertises a “98.8% recovery success rate”, recovery “up to 3X faster”, support for 3,000+ file types and 2,000+ device types, and 100 million users.
We have no way to verify any of those, and some of them are not really verifiable in principle. A recovery success rate quoted without stating the scenario is close to meaningless: recovering 98.8% of files from a simple deletion on a healthy drive is unremarkable, and recovering 98.8% from a full format would be extraordinary. The number without the test conditions tells you nothing.
This is the whole reason our methodology page exists and why we verify recovered files by checksum rather than by eye. A tool’s own count of what it found is not the same as what actually opens afterwards, and the gap between those two numbers is where most marketing in this category lives.
What looks reasonable
In fairness, several things about the product’s described behaviour are the right shape:
- Read-only scanning. The vendor states recovery runs without modifying the original device, which is correct practice.
- Preview before recovery. Present, and the feature we consider non-negotiable.
- Quick and deep scan modes, matching how the established tools work.
- A money-back guarantee if recovery fails, per the vendor.
None of that is unusual. It is the baseline for a credible product rather than a differentiator, but its absence would have been a red flag.
What we would want to know before recommending it
- How much comes back intact, verified by checksum, across our six scenarios — not how much it claims to find.
- Whether it reconstructs original filenames and folder structure, or returns renamed files. This is the difference between a recovery and an afternoon of sorting.
- How it behaves on a drive with genuine bad sectors: does it image first, or hammer failing hardware?
- What the free trial actually permits, in specifics.
- How it handles camera RAW formats, which is where cheaper engines usually fall down.
Should you use it?
If you have lost data right now, we would point you at something we have actually measured. Disk Drill recovered the most across our test drives. EaseUS gives you 2 GB free, which finishes many jobs at no cost. Stellar is the one for a drive that is physically struggling. PhotoRec is free and pays us nothing.
If those have already failed you, Drecov’s free trial costs nothing to run and a second scanning engine sometimes finds what a first one missed. That is a genuine reason to try it, and it is a much smaller claim than the vendor is making.
We will test it properly and put a real number on this page. Until then, this is a first look and nothing more.
